About Us

The Urhobos from Niger Delta region of Nigeria

Urhobo Association of New York, New Jersey & Connecticut is a non profit organization and a chapter under the Urhobo Progress Union of North America (UPUA).

It was formed in 2006 by a group of illustrious Urhobo sons & daughters in the tri-state area of America. It’s purpose is to:

Promote unity & maintain the Urhobo culture, tradition & language through our meetings & social engagements. Create health & wellness awareness for her people in diaspora and back home in Nigeria through education and outreach programs.

To be a part of the National body Urhobo Progress Union of North America (UPUA), to help foster unity amongst all Urhobos in diaspora. And also participates in the UPUA annual convention & all its laudable programs both in diaspora and back home in Nigeria.

The Constitution of Urhobo Association of New York, New Jersey & Connecticut.

The Constitution as embeded on the right hand side here came into effect on August 21, 2006.


Urhobo Towns and Villages

The Urhobo ethnic minority tribe comprises of many towns and villages residing in the Delta region of Nigeria, they are speak the Urhobo language with variation in dialects from one group to another.

Orerokpe, Sapele, Amukpe, Aghalokpe, the Agbassa people,

The Uvwie people of Effurun and its environs,Emadadja,

the Agbon people of Okpara.

Okparabe,Arhavwarien, Warri, Sapele, Abraka, Ughelli,

Effurun, Aladja, Ovwian, Orerokpe, Amukpe, Eku,

Evwreni, Agbarha-Otor, the Ughelli people of Ughelli.

Agbarho, Okpara Inland, Egini, Kokori, Olomu, Kiagbodo,

Isiokoro, Jesse, Ogharaefe, Effurun-Otor, Ewu, Jeremi,

Okwagbe, Ovu, Orogun, Owahwa, Otogor.

The Abraka people of Abraka, Oghara, Uwheru,

Urhowhorun, Ofone, Otor-Udu, Ekpan, Jeddo,

Kokori, Eku, Ovu-Oviore, Edjekota-Ogor, etc.
